Eloquence Editorial 2012 rates
Every job we take on is different, since every writer has their own strengths and weaknesses and every business its own unique needs. Therefore it’s difficult to generalise and state exactly how much a piece of editing or copywriting work will cost. However, here are some broad guidelines to the ball park amounts we charge. Do get in touch for a quotation that is tailored to your specific needs.
Eloquence Editorial adheres to guideline fees recommended by the National Union of Journalists and the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
Depending on the nature of the project, fees may be quoted by the hour, by the day, or as a fixed amount. This will be explained in your quotation.

Proofreading fees
Proofreading is charged at £21 per hour.
We have a minimum charge of £15. This is equivalent to around 1000 words of proofreading. If you require proofreading for less than 1000 words, the charge will still be £15 to cover the administrative tasks involved in taking on the work. We are pleased to offer a 10% discount for full-time students and not-for-profit organisations. Proof of status may be required.
We can offer discounts for proofreading tasks of more than 6000 words.
Copy-editing fees
- Light copy-editing is charged at £25 per hour
- Complex / substantive copy-editing or reworking of text is charged at £28 per hour
Once again our minimum charge is £15. For light copy-editing this is likely to cover anywhere between 500-1000 words. For substantive editing, £15 should be enough for 300-500 words, but this can vary greatly depending on the nature of the project.
Copywriting / Ghostwriting fees
- Copywriting of short documents up to 2000 words, e.g. covering letters, press releases, band biographies – £26-£30 per hour
- Copywriting including significant research – £350 per 1000 words
- Copywriting without significant research – £275 per 1000 words
Alternatively we may charge a a day fee for this service depending of the nature of the project.
Review and commentary fees
Manuscript reading and reporting is charged at £23 per hour.
